Harold Arlen (1905–1986), “Over the Rainbow” (1938)

This famous song from The Wizard of Oz was voted the twentieth century's no. 1 song by the Recording Industry Association of America and the National Endowment for the Arts. The soaring leaps of the chorus are suggestive of the hopeful heights of the rainbow that Dorothy believes will deliver her to a better place.
