Beethoven, Trio, WoO 37, mvt. 3, Variation 4

This trio for piano, flute, and bassoon was written in 1786. The third movement presents seven variations of a progressive rhythmic challenge. The fourth variation breaks from the prevailing mode and meter of the theme (found earlier in the chapter), presenting a variation in the style of the Siciliano, a pastoral dance of the Baroque period.
