Richard Rodgers (1902–1979), “My Funny Valentine” from Babes in Arms (1937)
Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein co-wrote and produced hundreds of songs and nearly fifty Broadway productions, including South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music, to name only a few. Their collaborations captivated America’s audiences through the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. This tune’s simple and classic structure have allowed it to be adapted and performed by many well-known artists such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, and Chet Baker.
