Mozart, Piano Sonata in A Major, K. 331, mvt. 1

Mozart’s eleventh sonata is one of his most well-known works for solo piano (c. 1783). Its first movement entails a theme with six variations, an unusual way to begin a piano sonata. The compound time signature and Andante grazioso tempo marking are suggestive of the Siciliano, a pastoral dance of the eighteenth century.
