Bach, Bourrée from Suite for Lute in E Minor, BWV 996
Dance suites were frequently composed in the Baroque era. They consisted of a number of dances in different styles. A single dance suite could contain any number of the popular dances of the day: Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Gavotte, Minuet, or Gigue, to name a few. This particular movement is a Bourrée, a French dance with an anacrusis and in a quick double-time.
