John Cage, Sonatas and Interludes for prepared piano (1946–1948)

John Cage composed several short works for “prepared piano,” wherein objects are placed between and on the piano’s strings to create unique timbres. In the Sonatas and Interludes for prepared piano, the influence of Indian music and philosophy is quite prominent, as these pieces are intended to express the rasa mental states or emotions.
