21-4

Roberto Murolo, “Marechiaro”

Roberto Murolo, “Lo Guarracino”

Renato Carsone, “Maruzzella”

Because of the frequent use of a major chord built on ♭2 ˆ by the Neapolitan school of Italian opera (Alessandro Scarlatti, Cimarosa, et al.), this sonority has been referred to as the Neapolitan triad. Both the chord and the ornamental use of ♭2 ˆ remains a favorite of contemporary and popular musicians of the Napoli region.
