Henry Cowell (1897–1965), “The Banshee” (1925)

Henry Cowell’s solo piano pieces introduce numerous extended techniques (i.e., ways of playing instruments in non-traditional ways). His term "string piano" refers to the manipulation of the strings inside the instrument, rather than performing the instrument with the more traditional hammer-key action.
