Brahms, Sonata for Violin and Piano, op. 100, mvt. 1
Brahms's second violin sonata may be the most lyrical of the three he wrote. Compare the characters of the themes you hear to the themes in his Clarinet Sonata, op. 120 no. 1 (the exposition of which is given in Example 25-5).
When listening to this movement, note that the exposition does not repeat. The development begins (after a measure of silence) by recalling the opening theme.
